Cranach brooches

This painting from 1531 by Cranach can be seen in Villa Borghese in Rome, it's an illustration of the fable that recounts how Cupid, having been stung by bees when stealing honey, complained to his mother Venus about the pain produced by such small animals. To which she replied that he too was small and that the wounds occasioned by his arrows were much more painful.

Hokusai necklace

The Great Wave is the most famous work by the Japanese artist Hokusai. It was printed around 1838 and is the first of the Thirty-six views of Mount Fuji. Given that the series was a great hit when it came out, printing continued until the woodblocks started to show significant wear. It is likely that the original woodblocks printed around 5,000 copies. If you drop by Met in NY or the British Museum in London don't miss it!

Botticelli paper earrings

This is Botticelli's Primavera, painted in 1482, you can find it at the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. There are about 500 identified plants depicted in the painting, everything about it is really beautiful. Here under you can see Zephyrus, the biting wind and Primavera's companion Flora.

In 1941 Matisse was diagnosed with cancer and, following surgery, he started using a wheelchair. Matisse said "Only what I created after the illness constitutes my real self: free, liberated. He started creating cut paper collages, often on a enormous scale, called gouaches découpés. Matisse was hardly new to cutting. It was already present to him as a descendent of generations of weavers.

I've always been fascinated by African masks, they are mysterious and powerful on the same time. The other day I discovered a beautiful children's book about a man that puts on a hundred masks so that he will please his lady, Monsieur cent têtes by Ghislaine Herbera. It's inspired by masks from around and the drawings are beautiful.

I went to Venice to assist the photographer Maria Enqvist, she is doumenting the artist Christiano Pintaldi's work.

They picked us up by boat. I love the smell of water in the air and the feeling of a fresh breeze on the skin.

On the way, there were some paintings to be delivered to a gallery owner, we saw some secret channels and gardens. I wonder how it works when there are floods, is it good or bad for the flowers?

Then we arrived to the ex-wharf where Pintaldi is showing Lucid Dreams, it looked beautiful. It's situated just between Arsenale and Giardini, the place is called Ex Cantiere Navale di Castello and the first time the space for an exhibition.

He works with pixels, every painting is made up by million little dots of red, green and blue. But from a distance they almost look like an illuminated tv screen.

Illuminazione - illumination is also the theme for the 54th edition of the Venice Biennale.

Architects from piquattropunto had created a very nice lounge just by the water. It was made out of my favourite material. There were chaise longues, tables and a bar - all in paper!

Then, alas, it was time to head back to Rome again. I would have liked to drink bellinis and have some sepia risotto, but next time! The late afternoon light made everything even more magical.

The Venice Art Biennale starts on the 4th of June and continues until the 27 of November, it's a fantastic occasion to see artists from all over the world.

Rabbits in Aztec mythology represented fertility, parties and drunkeness, not so strange considering that the females can conceive a second litter of offspring while still pregnant with the first. In Japanese tradition, rabbits live on the Moon where they make mochi, ricecakes. It is also known that people were carrying a rabbit's foot as an amulet to bring good luck, as early as 600 B.C. So here is a bunny to bring you some luck and a happy easter!
